For more than two decades, Charlesworth Gardens has been at the forefront of garden design, dedicated to creating elegant, enduring landscapes that enhance everyday life. With over 25 years of hands-on experience, we bring a refined expertise to every project, transforming spaces into seamless extensions of the home.
As the founder of Charlesworth Gardens, Lee Charlesworth BSc (Hons) holds a degree in design and a strong foundation in architecture. This blend of disciplines allows him to realise concepts with precision and insight. Lee's extensive tenure in the building sector includes designing and constructing gardens for a multiple award-winning landscape company, as well as being part of the build team for two award-winning gardens at the 2003 Chelsea Flower Show.
Drawing from the effortless charm of Mediterranean living—family gatherings, convivial entertaining, and understated style—we innovate with materials to forge distinctive, beautiful designs. Our process is deeply collaborative: we listen intently to our clients' stories and aspirations, ensuring each garden reflects their unique narrative and enhances their way of life. The result is outdoor realms that are as practical as they are captivating, destined to be cherished for generations.
From sun-kissed terraces in Spain and the UK to retreats across the USA, France, Italy, and Greece, we deliver tailored designs wherever inspiration takes root.
Design has been my lifelong pursuit. From a young age, my artistic inclinations were evident—winning a Christmas card competition at six and a school garden design contest at seven, among other early accolades. Though I pursued architecture after leaving school, my passions have always spanned forms, leading me to embrace spatial design as my true calling. I am attuned to the interplay of spaces, structures, landscapes, and human experience within them.
My focus has always been direct engagement with clients in their personal environments. Early interviews with architectural firms crystallised my preference for intimate, homeowner-led projects over vast commercial undertakings. For many, this work presents unique challenges—its deeply personal nature demands empathy and nuance. Yet that is precisely its appeal: every garden I create is a bespoke mirror to the client's tastes, evident in how they adorn and inhabit their home.
I often observe a regrettable divide between house and garden—a visually appealing composition that overlooks flow, utility, and emotional resonance. My method prioritises 'feel': the intuitive harmony of form and function, echoing the Bauhaus principle that design serves purpose, while acknowledging that purpose can elegantly emerge from form. I strive for gardens that envelop and inspire, yet remain effortlessly practical—child-safe, low-maintenance havens that integrate with modern rhythms, offering respite rather than added burden.
My architectural heritage equips me not only to envision beauty but to navigate the technical realities that ensure longevity. Landscaping, to me, mirrors the human form: hardscaping provides the essential skeleton and infrastructure, the unseen foundations without which nothing endures; softscaping adds the vital layer of texture and allure. Neither thrives in isolation—they interdepend, crafting holistic beauty we instinctively recognise.
Our commitment to excellence is affirmed by esteemed recognitions, including the Best of Houzz 2021 award for superior client satisfaction, and the Build Magazine Architectural Awards for Best Mediterranean Garden Design 2023 in Alicante.
At Charlesworth Gardens, we invite you to envision—and realise—a garden that truly belongs. Let's begin the conversation.

We had a major reconstruction of our garden. Lee carried out this work on time and with perfect results. He also pointed out that a few extra things needed doing for the garden to remain in good condition. We are really happy with the attention to detail and the quality of the work done. Highly recommended.

Thank you for transforming a barren bit of waste land on the side of a mountain into a landscaped oasis of color, texture and beauty. For an amazing design concept over three levels that accurately reflected our brief for a low maintenance, drought tolerant garden, with the creation of several unique and individual areas that compliment each other, whilst seamlessly connecting to the overall plan. Quality work throughout from the team which delivered an end result that we are absolutely delighted with and is a source of constant & continual pleasure. We have no hesitation in unreservedly recommending Charlesworth Gardens to anyone looking for innovation, quality and service, the outcome is stunning.
